Did I hear you say, “I can rest in the pew and dream of heaven. My Pastor is superhuman… he knows everything… can do everything. After all he’s ‘anointed’. He’s perfect. He must be an angel. And he’s ….” Bla bla bla…
When you closely examine Acts 6:1-4, you see there a crisis situation in the Church at Jerusalem, despite the revival and daily addition to the membership that they were experiencing! The truth is, revival and church growth also bring along potential for problems.
As revival rose in Jerusalem, work load mounted and for once the anointed apostles of the Lamb could not cope. They could be efficient in serving tables daily, except at the expense of their primary call and God-given vision of prayer and the ministry of the word of God. They called a meeting and told the congregation, “Folks, we need your help with the daily ministrations and the serving of tables.”
CHURCH MEMBERS …EMPOWERED HELPERS!
Church members form the
ministry of Helps. You are to assist your Pastor to keep his sight on God as
you keep your eyes on helping meet the daily ministration needs through your
department and personal abilities. It is much like a family on the road. The
father keeps his eyes on the road and drives, while the mother gives attention
to the children. The family will get into trouble if both of them switch focus
without switching positions in the car!
Your service of
support is as anointed as any other area of ministry in the Body of Christ.
Truth is, your pastor is yet to express the load of potential within him or
her. That divine power within is waiting on you to give it space to flow out as
you get involved in service in your home church! Reduce or remove the
encumbrances your pastor has to contend with daily by taking up those duties
and you will be amazed.
