tVB 1: THE HELPS MINISTRY - LEADERSTalk

Did I hear you say, I can rest in the pew and dream of heaven. My Pastor is superhuman he knows everything can do everything. After all hes anointed. Hes perfect. He must be an angel. And hes . Bla bla bla

When you closely examine Acts 6:1-4, you see there a crisis situation in the Church at Jerusalem, despite the revival and daily addition to the membership that they were experiencing! The truth is, revival and church growth also bring along potential for problems.

As revival rose in Jerusalem, work load mounted and for once the anointed apostles of the Lamb could not cope. They could be efficient in serving tables daily, except at the expense of their primary call and God-given vision of prayer and the ministry of the word of God. They called a meeting and told the congregation, Folks, we need your help with the daily ministrations and the serving of tables.

Leaders Need Helpers

Many leaders struggle along and may end up frustrated because they never ask for help. Asking for help is not a symptom of weakness. Rather it is a product of the understanding of what you are expected to achieve and the acknowledgment that you cannot do it alone.

One minster once told his congregation, I dont care if you guys dont give. I will give and God will bless me alone! I guess he felt frustrated, but then frustration results from trying to do alone what only many hands working together can do.

Sir / Madam, regardless of the size of your congregation, there are people who will lend a hand of support. You only need to present the problem and the solution needed. If God commanded that assignment, he will definitely stir people up and set situations in place to support you and ensure you fulfill the mandate. You cannot do it alone! The apostles cried out, We cannot be effective as apostles if we want to be effective at serving tables. Someone else needs to take care of this so we can effectively take care of that.

Someone once said to me, The helps ministry was not instituted so that the leader can spend the time watching television while the church members build the ministry. If what you are handling requires just you, then do it yourself. People usually know when workload gets beyond one persons capacity. Although they may not always come forward before you ask, they will acknowledge it when you present the facts. You have been called, but have not been commanded to do it all by yourself. In fact, in Exodus 18:17-18, Jethro, Moses father-in-law said it was a suicidal work style.

Sometimes the help you require is short term, other times it is long-term. It may also be professional or financial or administrative. Let God guide you, and ask for help ONLY as He directs. And when you get help, please be accountable to the people. Never take people for granted. Appreciate them.

It was William James who said, The deepest principle of human nature is the craving to be appreciated. Little wonder Voltaire concluded, Appreciation is a wonderful thing: it makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well. We did it is the language of every great leader. I built it is the boast of the narrow minded person.

HELPS MINISTRY TRAINING: YOU ARE NEEDED!

“And he told the crowd to sit down on the grass. Jesus took the five loaves and the two fish. He looked up toward heaven and blessed the food. Then he broke the bread and handed it to the disciples, and they gave it to the people.”   Matthew 14 v 19 (CEV) A little portion from VISION BUILDERS' “Understanding The Helps Ministry” Manual reads; “Had Jesus never appointed people to work with him, would we have anything left of the ministry of Jesus today? Had Paul never had men and women work with him, would we have had anything left of the ministry of Paul today?” It is amazing to us how this particular message, in both the manual and audio forms have blessed so many lives. After attending one of our seminars, this particular Pastor said to me, “Please come and tell my people 'You are important!' Everybody wants to know that he or she is important, and that they are vital for certain things to move smoothly. Even nature attests to this. Scientists say plants are sensitive...

tVB 40: 1 HELPS MINISTRY TRAINING: HOW TO BECOME AN EFFECTIVE CHURCH WORKER

Serving in the Helps Ministry is giving a hand of service towards the fulfillment of your Pastor's God-given vision. And being effective makes you relevant. It makes your leader consider a job "well done" just because it was committed to you. Through your service, a public image or impression is also created of your church family to the outside world . To be 'Effective' is to be, 'Efficient, able, capable…etc'. It is the definition of your results. Effective people impact the lives of others positively. It was the transportation that drove Joseph into political prominence in ancient Egypt. It is God's tool for touching and blessing others. However, effectiveness is a product of character and not a spiritual gift. Let's consider some qualities of an effective church worker. WALKS IN LOVE Practicing strife, hatred, jealousy, envy, murmuring, grumbling, complaining and every other vice is an exercise in self-reduction. Walking in love, however ...

tVB 33: 1 HELPS MINISTRY TRAINING: FULFILLING YOUR PASTOR’S VISION

Some years ago, I was invited to speak at a Church’s Worker's Training Programme. One of the questions during the interactive session was, 'How does a church member help the Pastor fulfill his God-given vision?' I would like to share  with you what some simple steps to fulfilling your Pastor's vision. Step 1: Understand the Pastoral Office The pastoral office is one of the leadership ministries appointed in the Body of Christ by the Lord Jesus in Ephesians 4. The Pastor is the chief administrator of the local assembly. According to Pastor Taiwo Odukoya, “He is the one who gets the blame when things go wrong.” God has made him (or her) responsible for the well being of the church community. This responsibility applies to both pioneer and supporting pastors. Step 2: Change 'the' Pastor into ' My Pastor' People go to great extents to personalize their gifts and property. Anyone Personalizing anything not given to him is labeled a thief. You nat...
